Virginia Reel and Boulevard
Revere Beach MA
Here's a picture of the Virginia Reel and the boulevard. The Virgina Reel was a cool ride, the top of the tower says Nautilus Railroad. This is a massive structure, look how small the people are on the sidewalk.
At Revere Beach there were actually two Reels. The one that had the tower (belonging to the Pit Fun House & Nautical Gardens) was the first Reel that was built in the early 1900's. The lift hill had the beach to the right. A second one was built around the mid-late twenties and was located next to the Cyclone. This is the one that had the beach to the left of the lift hill.
So what kind of ride was the Virginia Reel? The Virginia Reel was like a large tub you get into with all your friends. You hold onto the brass railings that surround the outside top of the wooden tub. The tub slowly accelerates to the top half switchbacks, then drops into the inside portion of the last half of the ride, then the speed picked up as the ride traversed some dips and corners.
