Early 1900's Revere Beach?

Here's a nice view of Revere Beach. I see the Pit has already been built, they have new lightpoles and there is nthing on the beach but people. No volcanos, no shelters, and no bandstands. So apparently there was a major cleanup before this peirod of "The Pit."

In the foreground must be apartments, see the curtain in the window? That chimney is pretty high too. The lady on the beach has an umbrella, but there is not a cloud in the sky. Where are all the crowds today? I guess to find out what is happening, we need to find out when the pit was built.
