The Pit at Revere Beach

Here's a picture of the attraction at Revere Beach called, "The Pit." You can see that it is also painted on the top of the two towers. But what was inside of the Pit?

This structure reminds me of the attractions that was in Coney Island called, Steeplechase and Dreamland.
