Lighthouse Point Beach
East Shore, New Haven CT
This 82 acre park on Long Island Sound features exhibits on natural history, swimming areas, nature trails, a bird sanctuary, a boat launch and an antique Looff carousel. There is a parking fee of $10.00 for nonresidents.
We parked in the main parking area of Lighthouse Point Park and walked across the huge field to get closer to the lighthouse and take some pictures.
Open: Memorial Day to Labor Day, 6 pm until Sunset
The beach area is really nice, and they have pots of flowers that decorate the grounds. The sand was plentiful and great care was taking to smooth it out. It looks like it was too early for lifeguards, even though it was about 10:30 AM.
There are big fields for playing Frisbee, or for the kids to play tag. They would probably be more interested in the playground and waterpark though.
